Canadian Federal Skilled Trades Program
The Federal Skilled Trades Program is designed to assist in the entry of overseas skilled trades-persons into the Canadian workforce as contributing members of the Canadian economy.
To be eligible for application to the Skilled Trades Program, applicants are required to:
- have a formal offer of employment in Canada or a certificate of qualification from a province or territory to ensure that the applicant is “job ready” upon arrival;
- meet the basic language threshold;
- possess a minimum of 2 years in work experience as a skilled tradesperson
- possess the skills and experience that match those set out in the National Occupational Classification (NOC B) system, showing that they have performed the essential duties of the occupation
To avoid backlogs and aid in faster processing times, CIC will accept up to a maximum of 3,000 applications in the first year of the Federal Skilled Trades Program. There are a total of 43 occupations eligible for the Federal Skilled Trades Program.

- 8211 Supervisors, logging and forestry

- 8222 Contractors and supervisors, oil and gas drilling services
- 8241 Logging machinery operators
- 8252 Agricultural service contractors, farm supervisors and specialized livestock workers
- 9211 Supervisors, mineral and metal processing
